2005 proved to be the year of the hybrid. No, we're not talking about cars that zip along with a mix of gas and electric power. The year's hybrid trend involved a much greater issue than global warming: Celebrity couple names. For example, the alleged pairing movie co-stars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie was labelled "Brangelina." The red carpet canoodling of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes bequeathed the two-headed media sensation, "TomKat." Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner begat "Bennifer." We can only be grateful that the Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams relationship didn't lead to tabloid cries of "He-shelle."
What does this have to do with this website? Obviously, this name-combining tendency was inspired by our very own corner of the net. Our humble innovation was to match "skin" to "cinema" and produce the slightly edgy yet succinct, "skinema." So we accept the molding of media mate names as the sincerest form of flattery, will take the high road, and not involve the judicial system. Donations to the skinema legal defense fund, however, are always welcome. And without further ado, on to this years recognition of celebrity skin conditions, the 2006 Skinnies Awards!
